CocoFax vs WestFax

CocoFax vs WestFax

The main difference between CocoFax and Westfax is that the latter separates its HIPAA-compliant online faxing from its standard business plans. Plus, all its plans include a Print to Fax Driver by default. With CocoFax, achieving HIPAA compliance requires subscribing to a professional account.

Security

CocoFax stores data in Swiss data centers, encrypts documents using 256-bit AES encryption, and regularly tests its platform for bugs and vulnerabilities. Its mobile app is also secured with two-factor authentication (2FA) and biometric security. To protect against common threats on the web, it uses firewalls and DDoS protection

As a CocoFax alternative, WestFax offers comparable security. It uses AES 256-bit and TLS 1.3 encryption to protect your faxes in storage and transit. While all its plans enable HIPAA compliance, its Enterprise includes upgraded security features such as security routing tools, secure FTP access, PGP security, and data housed in ISO/IEC 27001 certified data centers.

HIPAA Compliance

Both CocoFax and WestFax enable HIPAA compliance for businesses and organizations covered by HIPAA law.

With Cocofax, however, only those subscribed to professional plans (e.g., Premium, Business) can enter into a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and have the fax service’s Advanced Control features enabled in their administrative accounts.

As for Westfax, it has plans solely intended for HIPAA-compliant faxing. These plans are separate from its standard business fax offerings. Plus, all its plans include a Print to Fax software, making it possible to fax directly from any application that can print.

Sending a Fax

CocoFax lets you fax directly from G Suite, Slack, Chrome, and Microsoft. It also offers an API so you can integrate faxing with your current software.

WestFax is the better alternative to CocoFax if you need to fax using multifunctional printers (MFPs), Epic EHR, and apps other than G Suite, Slack, Chrome, or Microsoft. It uses the WestFax print driver to let you fax via any app that supports print. You can also configure the API to fax using your current software.

ESignatures

Neither WestFax nor CocoFax offer eSignature capability. With CocoFax, however, you can integrate CocoSign, its dedicated application for creating and collecting electronic signatures. Still, the app works as a standalone product, so you’ll need a separate subscription to use it alongside CocoFax.

OCR Technology

WestFax Enterprise includes OCR technology, which identifies text within images and transforms it into editable text. This allows you to search and extract data from medical documents, reducing errors in manual data entry. CocoFax doesn’t include an OCR feature in any of its plans.

Fax Numbers and Number Porting

Both WestFax and CocoFax include one toll-free or local number in their plans. Fax number porting is also available for all WestFax plans, whereas CocoFax only includes number porting in Premium or Enterprise.

EHR Integration

WestFax integrates with Epic, a leading electronic health record system. You can fax directly from the Epic platform, which utilizes Epic Print Services (EPS) to route your faxes to WestFax securely. Using AI, the fax service routes faxes to the carrier. You can also use the API to integrate WestFax with other EHR software.

Meanwhile, CocoFax also offers an API that can be readily integrated with EMR and EHR systems. However, you still need to configure it for faxing via Epic.

Pricing and Plans

WestFax pricing per page ranges from $0.03 for its HIPAA-enabled plans and $0.02 for its non-HIPAA plans. CocoFax is more expensive unless you pay annually. The Lite plan, paid annually, is the cheapest choice for those who only need to fax occasionally.

Also, same-tiered plans from both fax providers offer different features. For instance, WestFax includes Print to Fax driver and HIPAA compliance in its HIPAA Basic plan, while CocoFax Lite is not HIPAA-compliant.

WestFax offers four HIPAA-enabled monthly plans:

  • HIPAA Basic: $14.99 for 500 pages
  • HIPAA 1500: $39.95 for 1,500 pages
  • HIPAA 3k: $69.95 per month for 3,000 pages
  • HIPAA Enterprise: custom
  • Overage Fee: $0.03

It also has non-HIPAA monthly plans:

  • Basic at $8.99 for 500 pages
  • Fax 1500 at $29.95 for 1,500 pages
  • Fax 3k at $59.95 for 3,000 pages
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing
  • Overage Fee: $0.03

Meanwhile, CocoFax has five monthly plans:

  • Lite: $9.99 (60 pages)
  • Basic: $14.99 (200 pages)
  • Premium: $24.99 (400 pages)
  • Business: $34.99/month (1200 pages)
  • Enterprise: Custom
  • Overage Fee: $0.02

Cocofax offers huge discounts if you choose to pay annually.
