Security

eFax uses secure IDs, TLS 1.2 encryption, and 256-bit AES encryption for data privacy. It also offers an enhanced security option so you can’t receive faxes via email. When this option is turned on, eFax will store your faxes in its secure data centers instead.

WiseFax sends faxes via an encrypted HTTPS connection. Documents are uploaded using an encrypted connection. Afterward, faxes that are successfully sent are stored securely in WiseFax storage. You can access these files through a download link. 

HIPAA Compliance

eFax offers a HIPAA-compliant internet fax plan called eFax Corporate. It can provide a Business Associate Agreement or BAA, which is compulsory for business associates under HIPAA rules. Its list of security features also shows administrative, physical, and technical safeguards that comply with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. 

You can strike out WiseFax in your list of choices if you’re looking for a HIPAA-compliant eFax alternative. While the fax provider has a webpage that markets to the healthcare industry, its features don’t prove HIPAA compliance, which the federal law requires for business associates handling PHI. Its terms of service don’t state anything about how it handles PHI or how it implements HIPAA safeguards. Its current website also doesn’t explicitly mention HIPAA compliance anywhere.

Device Applications

You can use WiseFax for multiple devices and platforms. It offers apps for Android, Windows 10, Windows 7 and 8.1, Mac, and iOS. eFax is also flexible when it comes to device applications. You can download its free mobile app from Google, Windows, and Apple. Aside from faxing through mobile apps, both providers allow you to send faxes via email.

API and Developer Support

An API lets you integrate your internet fax solution with various software. In healthcare, API functionality is beneficial if you want to include seamless faxing in EHR or EMR systems such as NexGen or Cerna.

In this arena, eFax is the better alternative to WiseFax. The Corporate plan provides a feature-rich API to send and receive faxes and view audit logs. Faxes are sent via SSL-encrypted HTTPS web post, and delivery status is sent back via web post or email. 

Fax Numbers and Porting

eFax includes a free local number or toll-free number in all its plans. You can choose from numbers in different parts of the world. You can also have your existing fax number ported to eFax for free. eFax lets you use up to 10 fax numbers in one account.

WiseFax lets you purchase a local US or Canada number for $8 per month or $4.24 per week. With this plan, you can receive a maximum of 300 pages per month or 50 pages per week. You also get ten fax tokens per month or 5 per week, which you can use to send faxes. This plan benefits those who only need to receive faxes and only want to send faxes occasionally. Additionally, WiseFax offers a number porting service for a fee.

Pricing and Plans

eFax offers two plans. eFax Pro costs $15.79 per month or $0.08 per page. Its setup isn’t free. You must shell out an additional $10. eFax Corporate, on the other hand, offers scalable page volume and customized pricing.

As an alternative to eFax, WiseFax’s payment structure is different. It doesn’t have a fax plan that includes both inbound and outbound faxing. Instead, you must pay for each fax sent, which costs around $1 per page. As already said, you can subscribe to a fax number to receive faxes.
